The Bordeaux Wine Council recently announced the selection for Today's Bordeaux 2014, an annual program of 100 white, red, rosé and sweet wines priced between $10-$55. This year, Today's Bordeaux was selected by two panels of three judges each. The panels tasted through wines submitted from various Bordeaux appellations to determine the final selection. Judges included: Elin McCoy (Wine and Spirits Columnist for Bloomberg News, among other publications) May Matta-Aliah (Wine Educator, In The Grape) Christy Canterbury, MW, and Patrick Cappiello (Wine Director of Pearl & Ash Restaurant).
We recently sampled the following wines, which were included in the selection:
Château Capelle 2011
55% Sauvignon Blanc, 25% Muscadelle, 20% Sémillon
Notes: Coffee beans and Asian pear, medium body, green bean, grassy
We paired this up with fruit and enjoyed as an after-dinner wine.
Château La France Cuvée Gallus 2010
60% Merlot, 35% Malbec, 5% Cabernet Franc
Notes: Intense with rich and savory elements, powerful tannins
This bold red wine was a delicious complement to a grilled steak dinner.
Domaines Barons de Rothschild Lafite Réserve Spéciale 2012
82% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Franc, 4% Cabernet Sauvignon
Notes: Medicinal, light, dark berry, fresh acidity
We enjoyed this deep red wine the most paired up with a sampling of cheeses.
