James Dyson founded Dyson in 1993 with four engineers in a coach house in Bath, UK. Known for its line of Vacuum Cleaners, Dyson is now a global company made up of engineers, scientists and inventors. In addition to the vacuum cleaners the Dyson catalog now offers a selection of hand dryers, heaters, and fans. With necessity being the mother of invention, James Dyson and team created the first bladeless fan in 2009. The fan is available in a 10-inch model, retailing for $299.99. The Dyson AM06 has no blades, instead uses technology to multiply air, which in turn expels smooth and uninterrupted air.

Air Multiplier™ technology has been conceived for the Dyson AM06 Fan. Air is accelerated through an annular aperture, drawing in surrounding air to project smooth, powerful, high-velocity airflow. No blades. No choppy air. To make fans work quietly, manufacturers use slow-running motors to spin the blades. This reduces noise but also reduces power, producing weak airflow. To make powerful fans, they use fast motors to spin the blades. But fast motors create more noise. Powerful and quiet is very difficult to achieve in a conventional fan. The new Dyson AM06 fan has been engineered to be quieter. Streamlined air channels for reduced airflow turbulence and a Helmholtz cavity captures and dissipates audible motor noise in the Dyson AM06 Fan.

Dyson AM06 Fans can be programmed to turn off after preset intervals ranging from 15 minutes to 9 hours. Airflow can be diverted around a room - an independent motor drives smooth oscillation. Fan pivots on its own center of gravity, staying put without clamping. Ten airflow settings are controlled by remote control.
