Weight loss: Effects of eliminating sugar sweetened drinks
Weight loss may be a lot easier with the elimination of sugar sweetened drinks. One study shows that eliminating 100 calories of sugar sweetened drinks results in more weight loss than eliminating 100 calories of solid food from your diet. This same study, which appeared in "American Journal of Clinical Nutrition" and was quoted by Mayo Clinic's Nutrition-wise blog, goes on to say, "Eliminating 1 serving, or 12 ounces (335 mL), of sugar-sweetened beverages a day resulted in the greatest weight loss — 1 pound (0.5 kilogram) at 6 months and 1.5 pound (0.7 kilogram) at 18 months."
Weight loss: Ways to reduce your consumption of sugar sweetened drinks
- If you must have fruit juice, cut it with club soda or carbonated water.
- When buying fruit juice, make sure it has no added sugar or fructose.
- Try a sparkling water like San Pellegrino with a lime; it can be quite refreshing.

Taking this one all important step of reducing sugar sweetened drinks could help transform your weight loss... just by getting used to less sugar.

Good info Lynn...I just has a friend tell me yesterday that she cut out sugar and has lost 10-lbs in 7 weeks, without exercise!
I usually squeeze lemon in my water to flavor it.
I always add sparkling water to my wine...cuts the calories and I can have more :-)
By cutting sugar from my diet, I lost three pounds the first week.
I need to show this to my husband. We once figured up the calories in the soda he was drinking and it was more than 1,000 calories. He has cut it down some, but not enough. This might inspire him to cut more.
Good to know. I have an affliction for Tang. I will need to limit my consumption of this and drink more water.
