Books for teachers vouchers offered by Pequot Library

The Pequot Library located in the bucolic coastal community of Southport in Fairfield County is offering a little known program that provides books for teachers in under-served communities. The goal of this program is to link library book sales with classrooms in need of books. The idea started with the Renee B. Fisher Foundation's concept of providing books to classes at an affordable price at a library book sale.

The Foundation is located in Green Farms Connecticut and in the past has served Bridgeport and New Haven's under-served school communities with vouchers worth $200 to 13 schools teachers. This flagship Books for Teachers program is now a nationwide program.

This year, the Pequot Library is offering $100 vouchers to 220 inner-city classroom teachers. All public school classroom teachers in the Bridgeport and New Haven School Districts are encouraged to apply for an award. It is suggested that teachers apply early because awards are given on a first come/first serve basis. To apply please visit and click on Book Sales, then Books for Teachers, or email:
