Books and Feng Shui

Books represent knowledge, inspiration, and growth from a Feng Shui perspective.   If you love books, look around and see if all of your shelves are full and sagging under the weight of collections that have not been looked at in years.  If there is no room for new books on your shelves, then there is no room for new ideas.

Many people tend to feel that they have to hold onto books as a reminder of all that they have learned.  This creates a sense that knowledge is stored outside of ourselves, in the books around us.  It is not.  It is inside.  Make sure that you have room for books and ideas in your life that you are really excited about, right now.   This will also help to reduce mental clutter.

Let go of books:

·      If you have any duplicates.

·      If you have been meaning to read one for over a year, but secretly know that you never will.

·      If you started a book and will never finish it.

·      If you don’t love the book, or find yourself inspired by it.

·      If you read it and did not like it.

·      Any manuals, college textbooks, or items that are relevant to a very specific time in life that is now complete.

Now that you only have books that you currently love and use, arrange them in a way that you enjoy looking at.  Add artwork and décor to the shelves; arrange the books by color, by size or by subject.  Don’t fill each shelf up.  Place some books horizontally, and line up the others.  The more that you like the way that they look, the more you will find yourself being drawn into your bookshelf.   Remember, surround yourself and live with what you love.
