In today’s tough economy, paying $20 for a new book can stretch a wallet to its breaking point. Thankfully, Knoxville has several high-quality used bookstores.
Book Eddy (2537 Chapman Highway): One of the area’s largest used bookstores, the Book Eddy has a selection of over 165,000 titles, many of which are rare or out-of-print. As with any used bookstore, finding a specific title can be time-consuming; however, it is an excellent place to browse and peruse a bevy of literature.
Mckay Used Books and CDs (230 Papermill Place Way): Mckay’s is another store with a large selection. In addition to books, the store buys and sells used CDs and DVDs, as well as IPods and Video Games.
The Book Exchange (8905 Oak Ridge Highway): The family-oriented store offers excellent prices on their selection, as well as store credit for sellers. The store’s Web site also says that they will soon proffer embroidered bags and bookmarks.
Additionally, Web sites like Amazon.com and EBay.com always have cheap used books; however, the Internet fails to recapture the atmosphere and pleasure of casual store browsing.
