San Antonio brings new technology to the city in the form of a "bookless library". This new all- digital library is called "BiblioTech" and is the first bookless public library in the nation. It opened in Oct 2013 and is located at 3505 Pleasanton Road serving the South Side of San Antonio. It features computers, take home e-readers and also has study areas and meeting rooms. Comments from visitors are that it is similar in design to an Apple store. It is operated with the funding of Bexar County and free to all Bexar County residents. There are over 10,000 e-books to choose from so check the link above for hours and to register for your library card. Another location is being considered for the North Side.

The San Antonio Public Library also gives our community a vast resource of services such as a career center, story time for children, videos, book groups, and a digital library to download to your e-reader device. Check the link above for more information and branch locations. You can even borrow a laptop and access the internet with free WiFi.

The nation's first bookless library on a college campus occurred here in San Antonio also. In March of 2010, UTSA (University of Texas at San Antonio) opened the Applied Engineering and Technology (AET) Library at the Main Campus. This library was designed with an online format to support students with education tools and research. It also has spaces built for group study. Students can access the extensive resources of data, videos and e-journals from any computer or device whether on campus or at home or traveling. The library staff is also available to provide their expertise.

There are just a few reasons to be proud of San Antonio and our growing advancements in education and technology.

A visit to the library is a great way to teach children plus it is free. Watch the video above for a reminder on using the library to encourage young children to be good readers.
