Booker T. should play Miami Central one more time

Booker T. Washington High School and Miami Central have ended two remarkable seasons in winning State Championships. The two teams have talented players who will have fantastic collegiate careers but what remains is a fan's desire to see the teams play one more time. The High School Football National title doesn't hold any games to decide a winner as the National Prep Football poll and USA Today together award a designation to the team ranked #1 at the end of the season. The Tornadoes will be awarded the title of "mythical National Champion" as they are ranked No. 1 in both polls ahead of Allen H.S. in Allen, TX, who also finished their season by winning a state championship. Here are the highlights of what both teams (Booker T & Miami Central) achieved:

  • Miami Central defeated the Class 5A and 7A State Champions (American Heritage & Palm Beach Dwyer) by a combined score of 86-33.
  • Booker T. defeated NIAA DI Champion Bishop Gorman and Georgia State AAAAAA Champion Norcross.
  • Both teams avenged prior losses in the State Finals to their opponents (Booker T. vs The Bolles School, Central vs. Armwood).
  • Booker T. averaged 43.5 ppg on offense during the State tourney and allowed 16.5.
  • Miami Central averaged 49.6 ppg on offense during their tournament and allowed 15.2.
  • Miami Central played five teams in their bracket with a combined record of 55-9.
  • Booker T. played four teams in their bracket with a combined record of 36-13.

The two teams are the best in Miami-Dade County and part of the ten best in the nation. The game they played in early September filled Nathaniel Traz Powell stadium to capacity and more were outside peeking into whatever hole they could to see the eagerly anticipated game. Scalpers were selling tickets at $40 dollars in the parking lot and tickets were not sold at the stadium box office (pre-sold at both schools) to mitigate any problems on game day. Even though the prospect of an extra game between the two teams would gain media attention and probably be televised, sadly fans will have to wait till next year to see the titanic matchup.
