Floyd Mayweather Jr. may be smiling in his mug shot taken this morning from the Clark County Detention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada at approximately 11:00 a.m, but the one count of Grand Larceny charged against him for his alleged domestic dispute with the mother of his child Josie Harris, is no laughing matter.
According to a press release the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, "The Grand Larceny charge is the outgrowth of an incident which occurred on September 9, 2010 in which Mayweather was accused of both that crime and the crime battery domestic violence. The additional charge of battery domestic violence has been recommended to the Clark County District Attorney’s office who will evaluate the evidence in this case to determine the appropriateness of that charge."
Either Mayweather was showing off his pearly whites as a display of confidence in his innocence or the fact that the bail of $3,000 set for the nature of his alleged crime is simply loose change to him, one has to wonder the impact of this recent run-in with the law on his career. Not too long ago, Mayweather was investigated for his involvement in a shooting over a skating rink in Las Vegas and his trainer and uncle Roger was also arrested and charged with coercion with force and battery strangulation involving one of his female boxers.
This is not the first time Mayweather faced domestic charges from Miss Harris. Mayweather, who claimed he has been on vacation after his victory over Shane Mosley in May, is still reeling off some racist and homophobic comments he hurled against Manny Pacquiao a week ago. From a business standpoint, a jail sentence wouldn’t be the worst thing that happened to Mayweather. Upon his release, there would be a media circus like never before and his first fight back would likely set records, regardless of his opponent.
