Still think Mondays are the worst day of the week? You might change your mind if you ran into the Wednesday Witch!
Mary Jane is a mischievous little girl who finds herself in the middle of a big problem. The Wednesday Witch comes calling, flying on her vacuum cleaner (named James) and accompanied by her little black cat. When Mary Jane refuses to open her door (since she's a good girl and remembers what her mother told her about strangers), the witch gets very angry and flies away with a simple "Home, James!" directed to the vacuum. The cat, however, gets forgotten on Mary Jane's doorstep. When Mary Jane's mother gets home from her shopping, she lets the cat stay because it is so good at the dusting, and she even names it Cinders because it reminds her of Cinderella.
All week Witch Hilda collects the ingredients for her spell and waits. When it is Wednesday, she flies out again and returns to Mary Jane's house, ready for more mischief. However, things backfire when she takes Cinders and shrinks her down to the size of a little toy cat, but Cinders leaps out of her pocket and hides in the shadows. What's worse, Mary Jane's mother thinks that Hilda is bringing the replacement vacuum that she telephoned about just earlier that day. Hilda ends up with no cat and no vacuum cleaner, so she steals a pair of Mary Jane's roller skates to get home.
Mary Jane goes on many adventures with Cinders and James, but Hilda has not forgotten them... and when she shows up on Wednesday, everything gets turned upside-down and sideways, and Mary Jane gets an up-close-and-personal look at Witch Town.

And remember... if you get into mischief, the Wednesday Witch will come for you!
Trivia Question: Mary Jane makes some witch's brew for Hilda. What is in it?

I remember reading this book when I was young - I loved it! It's one of the books I kept and gave to my own children to read. They loved it, too, and still have it!
I loved this book when I was a kid! I wonder if my younger sister ended up with my copy? I think I need to read this again.
@CindyK - your sister probably did end up with your copy. Didn't she get all your stuff?? =)
I think I could really get to like this book, Wednesday, worst day of the week, by far.
The illustration looks really kewl!
I dont remember this one from when my Son was little, but it sounds cool, bet my Neices would love it.
This book looks so cute. I'm an adult but sounds like I might like it for myself :) thank you for the great review Sarah!
This sounds like a book I need to get for my future children (many, many years down the road). It sounds pleasant and wonderful. Thank you for the suggestion!
A bit more coffee would help,

I remember reading this book also! Very cute.
I loved this book! I have a copy of it somewhere at my parents house. I still get in the car and say "Home James!" every once in a while. I actually re-read it a few years ago over a college summer vacation. It was still just as fun to read.
Kylandra: Me too! I actually named my truck James in honor of this book. My fiance was very confused until I explained it to him - that's actually why I wrote this review, so that he would get some idea of what I was talking about. :)
A favorite for my kids, and now for my grandkids. Highly recommended!
