Years of heart ache and struggle have pulled together into something good. Tonight from 6:00-9:00 p.m. I will have my first book signing on my book "In A Southern Closet" at Unexpected Finds Gallery. The gallery is across from the Trolley Station at 1710 Camden Rd, Charlotte, NC 28203. You can call for more info at (704) 333-8188. The event is part of tonight's Gallery Crawl in South End.
When I finally received the hard copies I read the book again. I spent eighteen years on writing this book and rewriting the book. It's not like I didn't know the story. The beauty of reading through my memoir was to realize I had grown even more in the year since the publisher has been working on it. If I wrote the book now, I would write it differently. It's not like I can change the mistakes I made or that others made but in the writing of the book, I've been moved towards forgiveness. How many times do we hear the power of forgiveness and even read copious books on how we can learn this. Here's the truth for me, not one of those books really helped me learn to forgive. I see their value and on this side of forgiveness I can say the books are right, forgiving others is the best medicine for my own life.
When I write that the books on forgiveness didn't help, I am not saying they did not have value but that they couldn't show me how to forgive. Forgiveness must be one's ultimate desire but that desire must be one that comes from both the head and heart. Forgiveness is a process that is so individual that there is no one right way to forgive. You have to find your own way. That's the reward.
Stop by and chat at the gallery or have a look around. I'll be one of the short people there. Peace to you on your journey.
In A Southern Closet from Regal Crest Books
A compilation of poetry, reflections and essays this book is written in a style showing the challenges that the Lesbian Christian faces in living an open life, while also seeking to live a life of faith. It is the author's intent that the book may assist the lesbian reader in identifying the goodness in her own life, and also be a book to be shared with parents and friends in order that issues of faith can be seen alongside the gift of being a lesbian.
You can buy my book online from Bella Books.
