Book Review: Game by Anders de la Motte

See also

Game by Anders de la Motte is the first book in The Game trilogy. This thriller is set in Sweden and originally was published in Swedish. The main character is HP Pettersson, who is a slacker that finds a phone on a train and ends up getting involved in a game that gives him a variety of real world assignments.

The concept of the game and the conspiracy theories that get wrapped up with it certainly had potential for a great read, but this ended up being a rather disappointing thriller. This is partly due to the writing style that makes it a rather clunky read with a lot of chat/text type speak even when it is not chat dialogue, which may or may not be due to how the translating was handled. The quick going back and forth between HP and his sister’s plot lines is also rather annoying, especially as they become more intertwined into the same moments.

Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free to review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
