Yes I know I am a little late . The book came out a few years ago and is now selling in paperback as well as hard copy and compact disk It seems like most of my life I have always been a little late when it concerned Adam Ant . I because a fan of his in 1982 even thou he started a few years earlier .( In my defense I was in elementary school.) To be honest I really didn’t want to read this book and I avoided it for a long time . Let me explain , Adam Ant was my first rock star hero , I wanted to be him . I used to save my lunch money and buy buttons with him on it and his poster hung in my room . Well as the saying goes never meet your heroes because they will be sure to disappoint you . After his much publicized mental heath issues it brought back painful memories of my mothers own mental disorder and I didn’t want to think of one of my heroes like that . Well he recovered and is back in top form ( I had the amazing opportunity to see him live twice this last summer)and so maybe it was time to learn the story behind the artist known as Adam Ant.
The book starts of with the death of Stuart Goddard and the birth of Adam Ant in the form of a failed suicide attempt. ( Thank God ) Like a cocoon the artist emerges from his larvae state .The story is traced from his unhappy childhood and early marriage to his humble beginnings with music . One thing Adam has learned from life is to be careful what you wish for, you may just get it . From managers to record labels to lovers he has learned to be watch his back . This autobiography pulls no punches and he speaks candidly about such subjects as sexuality , lovers , dreams , nightmares and weakness .It has his family history and his music history and he recalls the vivid details of some of the more manic episodes in his life. ( For someone close to a manic individual , it can be a real scary time ) The best part of this book is the candid and sharp details that Adam tell the reader . With the help of a diary he kept for many years we learn how he rose to the top to the top of the charts and how he fell as well . From his relationships with such stars as Heather Graham , Downtown Julie Brown and Jamie Lee Curtis and midnight phone calls from Michael Jackson and time in a mental ward , the truth is laid bare .Even if you were not a fan of Adam Ant this book would present itself as a good read and like all great fairy tales end s on a high note .Since this book was published Adam Ant has had two successful American Tours and released a new album .” Adam And is the Blue Black Hussar in Marrying The Gunners Daughter “ Toe keep up with all things Adam please check out his official website at http://www.adam-ant.net/
