As technology has changed the lives of millions of people in the world, it is slowly becoming apparent that it will also have an impact on how governments operate. How will governments respond to the people who can have an influence and reach worldwide through social media networks that were never available to them in the past?
“In ACCELERATING DEMOCRACY: Transforming Governance through Technology, John McGinnis presents a pioneering examination of how to adapt our democracy to new information technologies and markets that can evaluate the consequences of political choices, enhance political decision making, and navigate the immense technological and social changes ahead. “ Manfredi Strategy Group (2013) [Press Release]
McGinnis emphasized points from his book in an interview Thursday on America Matters Radio show, hosted by Eddie Floyd, CEO of Nevada Matters, including the concept: “Congress must eliminate laws against Internet gambling that make for-profit prediction markets unworkable in the United States so that people can bet on what the consequences of a particular policy will be even before that policy is implemented.”Manfredi Strategy Group (2013) [Press Release,] When he was asked if the desire to maintain power by some politicians would get in the way of the technology that could be used, McGinnis acknowledged that possibility but maintained that the will of the people would have more effect than the politician’s desire for power.
The full interview will be replayed on 99.1 FM Talk, Fox News Radio at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, February 2, 2013 and www.991fmtalk.com. Accelerating Democracy is available in print and e-book online and at bookstores.
