Very hard these days to resist spending hour upon hour on the Internet searching for the “best deal” on a room at your favorite spot, whether it be for vacation or business. Quite possibly the process is enjoyable for some but quite frustrating for the majority.
Book with the hotel direct, they are happy to match whatever rate found after the madness of searching and searching. Just ask.
Expedia, Orbitz and the hundreds of other, “lowest Rate” charge hotels an exorbitant commission rate causing ever increasing rates and the assignment of “standard rooms” (those less desirable rooms whether it is size, location, view or bed type) if you book through one of those sites and if the hotel is busy you are getting a standard room due to the majority of guests paying a net higher rate. You book with Expedia for 200.00 that likely nets the hotel 140.00 to 160.00, you book the SAME 200.00 at the hotel’s website and they net 200.00. Who gets the higher rating and ultimately the better room?
Do not hesitate to call the hotel direct, social engagement is the main priority in the hospitality business these days and it just so happens hospitality people from the housekeepers to guest services agents are very nice people. If there are not accommodating spend your money elsewhere. Check TripAdvisor throw out the worst and the best reviews and look for trends: dirty, noisy etc. in the reviews, at the end of the day they are a good representation of the property.
Except for Starwood (they haven’t created a form yet) Roomkey.com has thousands of properties and they do not charge a commission to the hotels, great site.
Bottom line find a lower rate, tell the hotel and they will honor that rate because they do not have to pay the commission and it is guaranteed at the majority of establishments.
Travel safe, be well and have fun.
