Wild by Cheryl Strayed was an exhausting, but triumphant book in more ways than one. Cheryl tells her journey of how she dealt with the death of her mother, the loss of her marriage, drug addiction and being at rock bottom before deciding to get better and then, hike part of the Pacific Crest Trail solo. While it seems highly dramatic pulling her troubles in tow, the truly fascinating part was the preparation and perseverance it took to make her hiking (and life) successful.
Now this remarkable story is being turned into a movie courtesy of Fox Searchlight, Pacific Standard, and River Road Entertainment. Reese Witherspoon will star and co-produce (Pacific Standard is her film production company) and Nick Hornby is signed on for writing the adapted screenplay. The book is pretty powerful, so hopefully that same magic can be brought to the big screen. A director hasn’t been chosen yet, but production is scheduled to begin later this fall.
In addition to this book come to life, I’m also excited for Pacific Standard’s production of Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn which has David Fincher directing this fall.
