With the rising cost of college education, recession, and economic climate, many families are unsure of the steps necessary to save for their children's college eduucation. In celebration of October as College Savings Awareness Month, the Arizona Family College Savings (529) Program is partnering with Radio Disney for the annual Boo! At the Zoo event at the Phoenix Zoo. In addition, the AZ 529 program will be hosting a "TWEET UP" Scavenger Hunt to spread awareness about the importance of saving for a college education.
When: October 22, 2011, from 10:00 am-1:00 pm (Boo! At the Zoo is from 9 am - 4 pm)
Where: Phoenix Zoo, The Annual Boo! At the Zoo, AZ 529 Booth 455 N. Galvin Parkway, Phoenix, AZ, 85008
For the Tweet-Up Scavenger Hunt, Boo! At the Zoo attendees are invited to stop by the AZ 529 booth to pick up a brochure and a scavenger hunt form. As parents and their children enjoy Boo! At the Zoo, they can find clues and answers to the scavenger hunt throughout the Phoenix Zoo.
Active Twitter users can tweet facts and hints for the scavenger hunt with hashtag #AZ529. Others who are not Twitter users will be provided a form to answer the questions. When families complete the scavenger hunt, participants can return the completed form to the AZ 529 College Savings Booth to be entered into a drawing for a selection of prizes, including gift cards and fun items for kids.
The AZ 529 Plan is designed to help families meet the rising costs of education in an easy, flexible and tax advantaged way. During the month of October, the Arizona Commission for Postsecondary Education (ACPE), who is committed to providing access and success in postsecondary education for Arizonans, is featuring events around The Valley to inform, educate and encourage participation in opening an Arizona 529 Plan account.
