Last night's snowstorm has given Twin Cities ski areas a bonus weekend.
Wild Mountain, which reports 10 inches, will open at noon. The wheels will be turning until 9 p.m.., and a lift ticket, should you lack a season pass, will cost $20.
Welch Village invites customers of other ski areas to bring their season pass, and buy a ticket for $10. Otherwise, ticket will be $20. It will be open on Saturday and Sunday, from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. each day. On Wednesday, Welch VP Peter Zotalis cautioned against a Friday opening, saying that the coming snow would likely be very wet, "not normally the kind of snow that makes for great powder turns." The resort, he said, would be spending Friday getting the snow into shape for the weekend.
Buck Hill will be open as well this weekend, from 10 a.m. through 7 p.m, starting on Friday. It will also open the tubing hill for Saturday and Sunday.
Trollhaugen will be open today at 3 p.m., running through 9 p.m. It will be open on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. through 5 p.m.
Afton Alps will be open Friday through Sunday, from 10 a.m. through 7 p.m. each day. Note that a good chunk of Afton, including the Highlands, has already closed for the season.
Hyland Ski & Snowboard Area is closed for the season. It is undergoing a redo of its base area.
