On Saturday night, Jan. 26, interim WBC junior welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse improved his record to 33-2 with 31 knockouts with a viscous knockout over Mike Dallas Jr.
Facing off in the main event of a Showtime-televised tripleheader from the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, Matthysse’s power seemed to have an effect on Dallas early despite the Bakersfield, Calif. native’s most ardent efforts to establish a pace.
In the end, it was a right-left combination from the rugged Argentinean that ended Dallas’ night and put Matthysse in the early lead for 2013’s Knockout of the Year.
While the action was taking place, there were several boxing luminaries in the building, including the great Shane Mosley, former heavyweight champion David Haye, welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi, former two-division champion Jorge Linares, former WBO female super bantamweight champion Ana Julaton, lightweight contender Sharif Bogere, junior middleweight contender Alfredo Angulo, and former two-division champion Zab Judah.
