2014 has already been good to electronic trio Glitch Mob, who will take the stage locally at Bonnaroo 2014 in June. The band's sophmore album "Love Death Immortality" has been a hit with both fans and critics, hitting #13 in the Billboard Top 200. Now they've upped the ante with the Apr. 7 release of the music video for their hit single "Becoming Harmonious". You can see the full video here.
Featuring vocals from Bay area darkwave star Metal Mother, the video is directed by award winning German filmmaker Susi Sei. Known for her exploration of the mathematical nature of unusual forms as well as her refusal to use animation or computerized effects, Sei brings her hypnotic visuals to "Becoming Harmonious" through the use of cymatics, or the study of visible sound and vibration.
It's hard when watching the video to believe that all the scenes were filmed using nothing more than lycopodium powder, a Canon 5D, a 100mm macro lens, two chairs, and a subwoofer. The effect is almost kaleidoscopic, with a hypnotic precision that moves and shifts with the music.
Bonnaroo 2014 will be held June 12-15 in Manchester, Tennessee. Joining Glitch Mob will be acts like Jack White, Elton John, Skrillex, Umphrey's McGee, Yonder Mountain String Band, and Kaskade. A full rundown of the Bonnaroo 2014 lineup can be found on their website.
