The Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival unveiled the 8th in their twice weekly Lineup Clue game series today, Jan. 24. As is always the case with the Thursday edition of the game, this haiku clue could be found by pulling one line each from Bonnaroo365, Radio Bonnaroo, and the Bonnaroo App. Clue #8 reads as follows:
Innocence of youth
Dancing on the Galway Shores
Around they must go
If anyone thought Bonnaroo was going soft with a seemingly easy Clue #7 earlier this week, they're back to their wickedly confusing ways with this one. Nevertheless, the untiring clue sleuths on Bonnaroo's Facebook Page, Twitter, and on the Inforoo Message Board have tackled it with full force.
Some have taken the "Galway Shores" to point to a band from Ireland. Some guesses have been The Chieftains, The Pogues, or The Cranberries, although the connection to the other two parts of the clue are vague at best.
The most compelling of the "Irish musicians" guesses is for Glen Hansard. The Swell Season won an Oscar for "Falling Slowly." If you use the other two lines to connect children playing "ring around the rosie", then "all fall down" would be a good fit.
Others think a band from Ireland is too easy for this clue and the Galway reference is for something else. A popular guess here is The Young Dubliners. While not Irish, they do fit the first two lines of the clue, although the last one is more questionable.
More compelling are the numerous guesses for Purity Ring. Purity certainly fits the "innocence of youth" portion of the clue and the "around they must go" portion would fit a ring. The middle line is a bit more tricky, although there have been references to Claddagh rings as well as Irish step dancing to connect that portion.
If you want to take a stab at solving the clue, you can go about it in one of three ways. Guesses are being posted and debated in the comments of the Bonnaroo Clue Game post on their Facebook page. Others are sending their guesses out via Twitter using the hashtag #rooclues. Finally, you can go to the dedicated Clue #8 thread on the Inforoo fan boards, where some of the most seasoned clue solvers are analyzing every line for meaning.
Of course, there's still time to post your guesses for the previous 7 clues as well. While some have reached a basic consensus guess, none has been confirmed and some are completely unsolved. You can find links here to Bonnaroo Clues #1, #2, #3, #4, #5, #6, and #7.
