After months of speculations, rumors, and clues, the folks at the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival have finally unveiled the initial lineup for 2012. The featured acts for Bonnaroo 2012 include two past fan favorites, a recent Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee, and one of the most legendary bands in Rock and Roll history. Topping the Bonnaroo lineup are the three headliners, Radiohead, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Phish.
Radiohead's headlining performance at Bonnaroo 2006 is considered by many to be one of the single best performances in Bonnaroo's ten year history. The band has only grown in popularity since that time, headlining other festivals and garnering critical accolades for their newest album King of Limbs.
Red Hot Chili Peppers were one of the pioneering acts in the 1990's Alternative Rock scene. Riding a strong live reputation and a string of hits that include "Under the Bridge", "Scar Tissue", and "Give It Away", the Red Hot Chili Peppers have sold over 70 million albums and are a 2012 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee.
Phish are by far the best selling Jam Band since The Grateful Dead. With little to no airplay and no chart topping singles, Phish has built a devoted fan base that follow them around the country, often selling out their own dedicated Phish festivals to the tune of 70,000 people. Known for their lengthy, largely improvised, sets, their impressive light show, and their eclectic taste in covers, Phish is always a can't miss show.
But Bonnaroo isn't just about the headliners and Bonnaroo 2012 features the usual mix of white hot acts, rising stars, and legendary reunions.
After last year's epic Buffalo Springfield reunion, Bonnaroo had to pull a major hole card to top themselves and they've managed it by snagging the reunited Beach Boys for their 50th Anniversary Reunion Tour. Marking the band's first full tour with founding member Brian Wilson in decades, The Beach Boys recently made a high profile performance at The Grammy Awards with Maroon 5 and Foster the People.
For those looking for other Hall of Fame acts on the Bonnaroo lineup, there is also an appearance by 2011 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee Alice Cooper. Cooper will bring his always impressive stage show, and his touring band headed up by young guitar sensation Orianthi, to Bonnaroo for the first time in 2012.
For those who want to skip the legends for band who are on the rise, Bonnaroo offers a number of Grammy nominated and winning artists in 2012. These include Best Electronic artist winner Skrillex, Best Folk Album winners The Civil Wars, and Best New Artist winner Bon Iver.
Other notable artists on the Bonnaroo 2012 lineup include Ben Folds Five, Ludacris, Foster the People, Flogging Molly, The Avett Brothers, and Feist.
