Bonnaroo 2011 lineup full of Americana artists

The Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival released its initial 2011 lineup today and for fans of Americana Music, there's plenty to be glad for.  While the headliners, Eminem, Arcade Fire, and Widespread Panic, don't include any Americana artists, the undercard features a ton of the best bands in the Americana Music genre.

The highest billed Americana group is supergroup Buffalo Springfield, featuring Neil Young and Stephen Stills from Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young and Richie Furay from Poco.  While Buffalo Springfield only yielded a few hits, their influence on the Americana Music genre, both as a group and as individual artists, is massive.

Coming off their last half of 2010 domination of the Americana Charts, Robert Plant and the Band of Joy will perform at Bonnaroo 2011 as well.  A virtual who's who of the Americana Music genre, the Band of Joy features not only the legendary singer for Led Zeppelin but also multi-instrumentalist and producer Buddy Miller, Americana darling Patty Griffin, as well as Byron House, Darrell Scott, and Marco Giovino.  Plant is no stranger to Bonnaroo, playing a pre-headlining set at Bonnaroo 2008 with Alison Krauss and T. Bone Burnett.

Krauss will also be making a return to Bonnaroo 2011 with her primary group Union Station.  One of the best selling Americana artists of all time, Alison Krauss and Union Station regularly sell out large arenas, backed by a string of hits that would be the envy of any artist in any genre.

Fresh off his Grammy nomination, Ray Lamontagne and the Pariah Dogs will grace the Bonnaroo stage, as will Oscar and Grammy winner Ryan Bingham and the Dead Horses, as well as Old Crow Medicine Show, Justin Townes Earle, Karen Elson, and Hayes Carll.

For the annual Legends category, Bonnaroo has pulled out all the stops for 2010.  Americana and Country First Lady Loretta Lynn will bring her show to the Bonnaroo stage for a long overdue performance.  Fellow Jack White producing alum and Queen of Rockabilly Wanda Jackson will also perform at Bonnaroo for the first time.  Rounding out the legendary Americana acts at Bonnaroo 2011 are The Del McCoury Band who will be playing with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band.
