The Art League of Fort Myers will present "February Fantasy" on February 1. Featuring two-dimensional works in oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, collage, original prints (etchings, lithographs and wood block) and fiber art produced by members in good standing of the Art Council of Southwest Florida, this juried Art Walk show will be judged by Susan Bridges, President and Executive Director of the Center for the Arts of Bonita Springs.
During her tenure at the Center for the Arts, Bridges has gained considerable experience viewing, evaluating and judging fine art. Not only does the Center for the Arts bring to Southwest Florida a host of popular and widely-acclaimed juried art shows and curated exhibitions, it organizes and conducts the nationally-renowned Bonita Springs National Art Festival.
In 2011, Art Fair SourceBook ranked the January edition of Bonita Springs National the #10 art festival in the country, with Sunshine Artist rating the January show #11 and the March show #27 out of the thousands of festivals it rates each year. If anything, the quality of the art and artists at the festival has improved in each of the last two years, and by virtue of the roles she plays in the process of receiving, processing, and winnowing the hundreds of applicants for the shows' 211 coveted spots, Bridges has developed an unerring eye for originality, technical proficiency and the "wow" factor.
With this as background, the artists participating in next month's Art League show will really have to bring it if they hope to impress Bridges and make their February fantasy a reality that pays big dividends. And to amp up the stakes even higher, first place this month wins a $400 cash prize; second place received $150; and third place gets a check for a cool $75. There will be three merit awards given out, each worth $15, and three honorable mentions, worth $10 each. The top three winners will also be automatically entered in the Winners' Circle Show.
