Chinese director Diao Yinan’s "Black Coal, Thin Ice" (Bai Ri Yan Huo) won the Golden Berlin Bear award at the 64th Berlin International Film Festival last month.

The film also earned the Silver Berlin Bear Best Actor award for Liao Fan's performance as a former policeman turned detective investigating serial killings in a northern industrial region.

An exclusive still image from "Black Coal, Thin Ice" was recently released through Jiangsu Omnijoi Movie Co., Ltd and Boneyard Entertainment China who co-produced film, which will screen next month at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York.

The film is the result of a Chinese-American production partnership, and marks the first collaboration for Boneyard Entertainment China, an international subsidiary of the American company Boneyard Entertainment, which has produced and financed nine feature films in the U.S. and U.K. since 1996, including the Academy Award-winning "Sling Blade," "Henry Fool" (recipient of the award for Best Screenplay at the 1998 Cannes Film Festival), and "Greenfingers" (starring Helen Mirren and Clive Owen).

Veteran producer Daniel J. Victor established Boneyard Entertainment China in 2010. Through Boneyard Entertainment China, Victor brought together a group of high-profile investors -- 50 Cent, Eminem, Carmelo Anthony, and Timbaland -- with the long-term vision of building a film company focused on what is the world’s most exciting and quickly-evolving market.

“We were all passionate about the idea of building a film business in China,” said Victor. “It is a fascinating country, the culture and history, and it is now the second-largest market for films in the world after the U.S. Their film industry and box office are growing astronomically.”

"Black Coal, Thin Ice" (Bai Ri Yan Huo) will opens in China this month. The film is in Mandarin with English subtitles.

Its described as a noir thriller about a down-and-out detective and his successful protégée who reunite to tackle a cold case and catch a serial killer still on the loose.

Boneyard Entertainment China and Jiangsu Omnijoi Movie Co. have their second film scheduled to begin principal photography in May, and a third film slated for later in 2014.
