In this upcoming "Bones" episode, the Jeffersonian team is determined to end Pelant for good—and that means they're setting up the evil genius. A human cadaver is willed to the team, but instead of using it for research, they're going to stage it like Pelant stages his bodies and steal the spotlight away from him to flush him out, with Special Agent Hayes Flynn's help. Yes, Reed Diamond is also back in this episode, and if we weren't already suspicious of him, we would be for the fact alone. However, Pelant, like always, is one step ahead, and he kills someone close to Booth (David Boreanaz). Poor Booth! The guy forces him to turn down Brennan's (Emily Deschanel) proposal and now this?
Meanwhile, Sweets (John Francis Daley) returns from his leave (though he will be helping the team with a case in episode 3 while on leave), and he's convinced Agent Flynn isn't the person everyone thinks he is. But is he right? Sweets' observations were completely off in episode 2, but is his time off going to bring him back to the Sweets we're used to seeing? Last season, Hart Hanson said of Flynn, "There’s an arc with him, and it’s complicated and fun and we have an end plan with that" and he's "an extremely important part of the Pelant story." Is this the end of that arc?
Fox has already released promotional photos (check them out here), and yes, we were wrong about what we thought they meant before this episode description was released. Patricia Belcher is also back as Caroline in this episode, as is Mather Zickel as Aldo. With news that Pelant kills someone close to Booth, it's hard not to think at first that Aldo could be in trouble, but we do know he's going to be back a few times this season, including he wedding episode, so that should guarantee his safety—unless those at "Bones" have something a bit different planned for him.
"Bones" season 9 airs Mondays at 8 p.m. on Fox. "The Sense in the Sacrifice" airs Oct. 7. What are you hoping to see in episode 4?
