In this show, Bones has a crisis of faith when she gets shot at her job and she becomes inches from death. While unconscious, everything that she thought she knew is challenged and she wonders if God is real. It was a nice change of pace to see Bones rethink her beliefs that there is no afterlife and also it was interesting to see what had made her so set on finding facts rather then beliefs.
The show opens with Cam/Bones looking at a victim’s body. Hodgins comes in to take the insects off the body. Cam dismisses Bones to go home for a few hours.
At home, Booth suggests a vacation in a cabin in the woods for the family. Bones doesn’t want to because Christine is so young and Booth gets upset and they fight about her not being spontaneous.
Back at the lab, Bones is working on the bones of the victim. A guard comes in. She talks to him about the victim. The guard leaves. Time passes. Bones ignores Booth’s call. Someone comes in and shoots her. Booth comes in to apologize and sees that she’s been shot. Bones in a vision is at a house. A woman walks over to her. It’s Bones’s mom.
Booth is walking Bones’s body at the hospital, he’s begging her to stay with him.
Bones in vision. She thinks that she’s hallucinating. She uses logic to explain her vision. Her mom asks her about her life. Bones talks about her family. She says that she has to go back, but her mom says that it’s not her decision. Bones tries to opens the door to the house, but she struggles. When she opens it she’s greeted by a bright light that pulls her in.
Bones real day is in present day. She is being operated on. Cam is in the operating room. She flat-lines.
Bones is back in her mother’s house. Mom tries to keep her talking, but Bones keeps trying to get back. She says that she understands why her mother left her. But her mom says that this is her problem because she tries to understand things that aren’t understandable.
Booth is in the waiting room. Cam comes out to talk to him. She tells him Bones is stable. He says there is no word on the shooter because the guard is also dead. Cam wants to go back to the lab because she wants to find the bullet because there is no bullet and no exit wound.
At the lab, Hodgins/Sweets/Clark are looking at the scene. Cam comes in. Cam tells Clark/Hodgins about the no bullet or exit wound.
Booth is visiting Bones. She starts mumbling in her sleep and she wakes up. He tells her tht she was shot. She says that it was cold at the wound site when her dad comes in. She says she didn’t see anyone because she was wearing magnifying headgear.
Sweets/Sparkling talk about the case. She is leading the investigation and she thinks that it was someone with a badge. Also, that the security cameras were disabled before Bones was shot.
Angie comes in and tells Cam/Hodgins that Bones is awake. They are looking at the guard and it doesn’t have a bullet or exit wound either. Hodgins mentions being used an ice bullet. Cam asks to set up the test.
Sweets/Sparkling talk to the people who were working overnight. They say they don’t know anything. Sweets says it’s hard to remain perspective because it’s Bones.
Sweets goes to update Booth. He is frustrated t the lack of results. He tells Sweets that he feels guilty about the fight they had.
Clark notices that the 1st victim was shot wit ha taser multiple times in the head. Angie comes in and confirms that Hal was the one that killed the 1st victim.
Sweets/Sparkling look at Groot (1st victim)’s house. They start talking about their filed romance. Sparkling notices that the table was hit hard an dshe finds confetti with number son it on the floor.
Angie is visiting Bones. She tells Bones how they figured out that Hal killed Groot. Bones’s heart starts to give out and she flat-lines.
Bones is with her mother again. They talk about the last time they saw each other. They had a fight about a boy she liked. She said that Bones made decision with her heart and not her brain. She says she feels guilty about their fight. Her mother tells that she knows she felt guilt because she started thinking logically and no longer using her heart.
Bones wakes up in the hospital. The doctor said she passed out because their was a problem with the blood they put in her. Max leaves Booth and Bones alone. Bones talks to him about her he’s the one that keeps calling her back to here. She tells him about her visions.
Hodgins shows Cam the ice bullet and explains the problems with using it. Hodgins thinks that it was a blood bullet because Bones’s body reacted to the blood differently. Cam is happy with his discovery.
Clark comes to talk to Cam. He shows that Hal has a small in fracture in his skull. She says it happened around the time with his fight with Groot.
Max comes in to Bones looking at her x-ray. He tells her to relax and gives her some ice cream. They talk about her visions of her mother.
Hodgins goes to talk to Cam about the sliver from Hal’s head. He says that Hal was hit with something from the Jeffersonian.
Sparkling to Booth about the case. She concludes that the killer, Groot, and Hal were working together to steal from the Jeffersonian. He says that Hal called the killer to take out Bones because she would be the one to figure it out.
Sparkling go to meet with the one that they think shot Bones. They meet with Batuchan. Hodgins examines the painting while Sparkling/Booth interrogate Batuchan. Batuchan asks for a lawyer and Hodgins notices a cronian tank that could be used for keeping blood bullet. They find a small tube that could have been used to shoot Bones.
Booth/Sparkling interrogate Batuchan at the FBI headquarters. They ask where he was for the 9 minutes from the camera. Booth grabs Batuchan and slams him against the wall. Booth receives a text from Bones.
Booth goes to see Bones. She says that antigians are on her ribs and she’s going to surgery to get him the blood. Bones is in surgery. She goes back to her vision with her mother. Her mother is packing a bag. She says shes going to work. Bones is afraid she will never see her again. She gives her advice to find the little girl that she had locked away because she says it’s not surviving but flourishing and living a full life. They say good-bye before she leaves.
Bones wakes up in the hospital. Booth/Max is there. He says that the blood matched. Bones gives Max the message from her mother. He is touched before leaving. She admits that she feels a little crazy for believing that she actually talked to her mother.
