Beginning March 1, 2013, Pittsburghers will have an opportunity to address bone health issues in a natural, therapeutic way. Given the concerns about using pharmaceuticals for bone health, this program should be of interest to many. The Bones for Life® (BFL) program will be offered at the Andrew Carnegie Free Library in Carnegie. This worldwide “wellness through movement intelligence” method is an effective way to consciously take charge of your bone health. Using biometrics, BFL “uses weight-bearing in the context of proper body alignment to teach ergonomically sound ways of sitting, standing, walking… [and performing] a full range of human activities safely and easily” (Bones for Life, 2013, p.1).
BFL was created using the Feldenkrais® Method that allows the body and brain to improve and change, encouraging vitality. Science calls this Neuroplasticity. The themes that will be covered in the training include balance, flexibility, core stability, autonomy, and dynamic mobility. Strengthening bones and promoting joint flexibility are key components of this program. This is a safe method of improving bone strength and posture.
Bones for Life® will be presented in three 22-hour parts. Each segment will be given over four days. Segment One will take place from March 1-4, 2013. Segment Two will be from June 21-24, 2013. The final segment is scheduled for November 1-4, 2013. Training times for each course are: Friday from 4-8:30pm and Saturday through Monday from 10 am-5:00pm. Each segment is $450.
Participants must buy a BFL wrap, which is 100% cotton. This can be purchased in class. For the second segment, one pound ankle/wrist weights will be necessary. Participants can also bring a mat, blanket, pillow, and hand towel.
BFL is a natural alternative to pharmaceuticals. Take charge of your bone health, and learn safe movement techniques. If joint health has been an issue, this program will also help address that problem. Proactive measures will help to avoid future problems, and curative measures will assist in revitalizing problems with bones, joints, and balance.
