Bona gets Rookie of the Week award

The Minnesota Golden Gophers forward Rachael Bona was given her first career award today, winnning Rookie of the Week in the WCHA. Bona was a scoring machine last season for the Coon Rapids Cardinals and is now looking to catch on to the college hockey game. Let's look at this week's award winners.

Offensive Player of the Week: Jocelyne Lamoureux, Junior, Forward, North Dakota.

The star forward was active last weekend, to say the least. Lamoureux had two goals and three assists in a 10-0 win last Friday over St. Cloud State. She followed that performance with a hat trick and one assist in Saturday's 9-0 win to help UND sweep SCSU. Lamoureux was a +9 on the weekend.

Defensive Player of the Week: Jorid Dagfinrud, Junior, Goaltender, North Dakota.

Jorid was in net the whole weekend and helped lead the way for North Dakota to sweep St. Cloud State. Dagfinrud stopped all 16 shots on Friday and all 27 on Saturday to earm back to back shutouts. Dagfinrud is now 6-2-1 on the season.

Rookie of the Week: Rachael Bona, Freshman, Forward, Minnesota.

Bona was a key goal scorer in last Friday's win over Bemidji State. Bona got the Gophers first goal to spark a comeback in a 3-2 win. Bona has pitched in with a point in every series so far in 2012. Bona now has four goals and five assists in 26 games played this season.

Emily West was also nominated for Offensive Player of the Week.
