Bon Jovi set to play American Idol March 14, support new CD "What About Now"

Jon Bon Jovi deftly side-stepped rumor and innuendo this past summer about his being considered a candidate for the judge’s panel on American Idol.

Perhaps someday, but with a new CD and world tour in the works at the time, hosting anything but another of his legendary band’s sold-out Bon Jovi shows somewhere on the globe was the last thing on his mind.

Consummate businessman and keeper of the Bon Jovi brand that he is though, Bon Jovi didn’t burn any bridges when he squelched whispers of his judgeship.

As a result, he and guitarist Richie Sambora, keyboardist David Bryan and drummer Tico Torres will appear on Ryan Seacrest’s flagship talent search show on Thursday, March 14 at 8p.m. EST, 7p.m. Central.

For Bon Jovi---who last played AI with Daughtry in 2010, the timing couldn’t be better.

Their appearance not only coincides with the highly rated voter results show from the talent competition, but follows the release of Bon Jovi’s new album---“What About Now”--- which is set for release two days before, on March 12.

What About Now” marks the band’s twelfth studio release, and they are expected to perform the first single Because We Can”, undoubtedly showing American Idol’s millions of viewers and hopeful contestants how to rock it old school with a fresh new sound.

Bon Jovi kicked off yet another world tour in support of the new record in February and has been playing to sold out audiences on a jaunt that will see them rock hundreds of thousands of fans in North America as well as Canada, Europe, Japan, South Africa, Brazil and Australia.

Once the most popular show on television with over 18 million viewers, AI has lagged recently against stiff competition like “Modern Family” on Wednesday nights and “The Big Bang Theory” on Thursday night. Just last week Idol posted its’ lowest ratings since it debuted in the summer of 2003 and its’ lowest Wednesday rating since 2002.

Either way, the appearance is win-win for Bon Jovi: not only does he continue to support King of All Media Ryan Seacrest (they were one of many acts who performed at his iHeart Radio Music Festival in September, 2012) but the band will reach over 10 million viewers in under five minutes on one of AI’s most highly anticipated segments of the season.

No doubt millions of Bon Jovi fans will tune in across the globe, pumping up AI ratings as well as increasing an already frenzied demand for Bon Jovi concert tickets and the new CD.
