Bon Jovi did not let a little thing like historical winter storm Nemo stop them from rocking out at the beginning of their new 2013 "Because We Can" tour. Jon and the guys played two shows during the blizzard for snowed-in crowds at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, CT., according to Mix 104.1 radio reports on Thursday, Feb. 14.
The radio station reported that on Friday night, while winter storm Nemo's winds piled up snow around Southeastern Connecticut, Jon Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora, David Bryan and Tico Torres played a private pre-tour rehearsal show for CBS Radio and Radio.com in front of a crowd of 350 or so die hard fans from the New York and New England area.
Snowed-in fans cheered as Bon Jovi took the stage in front of the the small crowd at the Connecticut casino, kicking the party off a favorite Bon Jovi number one hit, "You Give Love a Bad Name."
“So what do you think?” Jon Bon Jovi, asked a cheering crowd about what was supposed to be the band’s final rehearsal before kicking off the multi-city "Because We Can" world tour the following night in the same arena at Mohegan Sun.
Blizzard conditions put a halt to thousands of disappointed Bon Jovi fan's travel plans with concert officials forced to postpone the public Saturday show. But it turned out to be a bonus for the 2,000 fans who had arrived early at the casino’s hotel before the statewide mandatory travel ban in Connecticut was issued.
The band played an impromptu free show Saturday evening at pm for everyone stranded in the Mohegan Sun complex, guests and employees alike.
“You gotta be really big to do matinees,” Jon Bon Jovi told the hastily assembled crowd in the Mohegan Sun Arena. “Welcome to what is the first show, or the last rehearsal of the "What About Now" tour. You’ll be able to say ‘I was there.’”
“I want to thank every one of you for coming here to Mohegan Sun yesterday and the day before, camping out in the hotel,” Bon Jovi continued from the stage to a cheers and applause. “I knew there was no way I was going to let them pack up the trucks and get them ready to go down to DC unless we played for you. Just get that nonsense out of the way, but hold onto your ticket stubs because for everybody else who is not here, we’re coming back to do it for real in the fall.”
Mohegan Sun announced that the official Bon Jovi concert would be rescheduled for Friday, October 25th, 2013. All tickets that were sold for the February 9th concert will be honored. Those holding tickets should contact their original point of purchase, should they have questions or need more information.
