A bombshell ATF email from 2010 that surfaced this morning shows that when it came to the murder of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry, all of the top officials of the ATF and the DOJ were fully aware of serious ramifications of the fallout. One of the guns found at the scene came from the agency's illegal 'Fast and Furious' program.
This means that all of the top officials of the ATF and DOJ knew about the gunwalker scheme and that a murder had been committed as a result.
National Gun Rights Examiner David Codrea states that the email shows that the Deputy Chief of the Special Prosecutions Unit of the Criminal Division of the Department of Justice had fully documented awareness of the connection between Terry's murder and Fast and Furious within a few days of the crime. So concerned was the Deputy Chief of the potential explosive nature of that connection that he recommended that the Phoenix Field Division of the ATF hire a media consultant to deal with the fallout.
Codrea cites information given to investigative citizen journalist Mike Vanderboegh:
Sources tell me that in any dispute between DOJ AUSAs, there is a "deconfliction process" that is "written in stone." "All such disputes automatically get kicked upstairs," said one source, and "certainly would be known immediately to the head of the Criminal Division." Meaning, of course, Lanny Breuer. "Also, Holder would have been briefed about it," said the source.
Vanderboegh further reports that prior to the 2010 murder of Agent Terry, ATF agents in El Paso had seized a stash of weapons that came directly from Fast and Furious in the very area where Terry was murdered. But the Phoenix Field Division refused to cooperate with Texas ATF agents in investigating the discovery of the weapons. It was then that Texas went over the heads of the Phoenix division and sent the information to the Deputy Chief at the Department of Justice.
At that point a dispute ensued between Texas and Phoenix. The Phoenix Field Division orchestrated an attempt to force the Dallas Division to 'stand down' on their investigation of the the stash of Gunwalker weapons they had discovered. The Deputy Chief at DOJ then sent the following email:

I advised AUSA Russ Leachman through SAs Steve Hall and Curtis Williams to provide me with a Grand Jury Subpoena for RAC David Roth and Holly in Phoenix to obtain the required evidence needed in our investigation here. AUSA Leachmnan has now advised the AUSA in Phoenix that the ATF agents here need access to the case in Phoenix since the ATF Phoenix office refuses to provide us with the evidence.
I wish that Leachman would have given those subpoenas to me but if the AUSA in Phoenix refuses to comply then maybe Phoenix should start preparing their explanations for the way that they conducted their straw purchase cases there. They should probably hire a media expert anyway to assist them in explaining the 2000 firearms and the possible connection in the murder of the Border Patrol Agent.
Thanks,
Glen
Glen Cook is the Deputy Chief of the Special Prosecutions Unit of the Criminal Division of the Department of Justice.
In addition, last evening this writer reported that an article appeared in the Arizona Star concerning the fact that the official case file on the murder of Brian Terry had disappeared. That story can be read in its original form at the Arizona Daily Star website.
UPDATE 1: It turns out there are 2 persons by the name of Glen Cook at DOJ. One is a Field Division Supervisor of the El Paso ATF. The other is the Deputy Chief of Special Prosecutions at DOJ. There is also a discrepancy in spelling. One is spelled 'Glen' while the other is 'Glenn.' We are currently seeking to determine which of the 2 wrote the email above. Either way, the facts and issues are the same. More info will be provided as it becomes available.
