Hundreds of people were evacuated Tuesday morning from a Nassau County courthouse Tuesday after police received a telephone bomb threat, court officials said.

A Nassau County police spokesman said officers were dispatched to the courthouse after police received the threatening call at 11:01 a.m. Officers from the police department’s Arson and Bomb Squad were also sent to the scene.

A court spokesman said court officers followed protocol and conducted “a thorough search” of the building.

Outside, the evacuees were ordered to clear the area in front of the building and were told to move away from the building and out of the parking lot. Court officers closed surrounding streets, including Supreme Court Drive and County Seat Drive, during the incident.

When the facility was deemed safe, the building reopened at 11:25 a.m.

Nassau County police officers remained on scene after the building reopened. Police said the investigation is ongoing.
