Sergei Filin, the artistic director of the Bolshoi Ballet, suffered an acid attack Thursday night. The ballet acid attack happened as Filin was nearing his home around midnight and an unidentified attacked threw the acid at him. CNN shared the details on Jan. 18.
The Bolshoi Ballet acid attack has left Sergei Filin with third-degree burns to his eyes and face. It could take six months for him to recover, and right now doctors are fighting to try to save his eyesight. While this ballet acid attack seems extreme and bizarre to many, Filin reportedly had experienced intimidation for months. He has had his car tires slashed, someone attempted to hack his Facebook page, and he has received threatening phone calls.
RIA Novosti reports that Sergei Filin is in the burn center in satisfactory condition, and police are investigating. The site shares that a hacker has been arrested in connection with the ballet acid attack, but a motive and further details on who did this are not yet known. Filin will be sent to Belgium to a military burn center for further treatment. At this point investigators suspect internal theater politics play a role in the attack.
