Boko Haram Wants Prisoner Exchange

Boko Harem's leader Abubakar Shekau has released a video of some of the kidnapped girls. In the video the girls all are dressed up to look as if they have joined Islam. Shekau states that if the authorities want the girls back then they will have to release prisoners being held by the Nigerian government.

On April 14 the militant group known as Boko Haram kidnapped some 276 girls from their school. The group was upset that the girls were in school being taught western views and ideas. Later more girls were kidnapped making the total come to over 300 young girls. The group said that they would start selling the girls into slavery if the government didn't acquiesce to their demands.

Nigeria's Interior Minister speaking on behalf of the government refused to consider the idea of a swap. Boko Haram is being considered a terrorist organization and dictating demands was too much for Morro while speaking to a BBC reporter.

The world took notice some ten days ago when the mothers of the girls and others began to demonstrate against the government for not doing anything for the kidnapped girls. It was days and the Nigerian government had done nothing to try to free the young woman.

The United States, Britain, and China have said that they would be willing to help the Nigerian government in handling the situation but would not get involved militarily. The United States has already sent military advisers to Nigeria to help in any way possible.

Boko Haram has been around for ten years or so but it is only in the last few years have they been taking their fight to the public. The result is they want the northeastern region of Nigeria to be under Islamic law and not western thinking.

Some 53 young girls were able to escape but that still leaves many being held by the Boko Haram organization. With the terrorist group holding the girls and literally holding all the cards the next step is in their hands. So we wait.
