The Boise State Broncos debuted this season ranked number 19 in the USA Today and AP rankings. After an abysmal performance against Washington on opening weekend, they fell sharply from the Top 25 in both polls. The Broncos have won back to back games since then by a combined score of 105 to 34.
The team fell out of the Top 25 after opening weekend. In fact based on points received, they dropped to 40 in the AP Top 25 and 37 in the USA Today Poll. After dominating FCS opponent Tennesse-Martin, 63 to 14, the Broncos climbed to 38 in the AP Top 25 but fell to 43 in the USA Today Poll. Now two straight wins, the second coming against Air Force this past Friday by a score of 42 to 20, they ranked 34 in the AP Top 25 and 39 in the USA Today Poll.
Unfortunately for the Broncos, after being completely dominating by the Washington Huskies, 38 – 6 in the opener, it is going to be very difficult to get back in the top 25 rankings of any poll. That said, they can make up some ground with a big win this Friday when they take on the Fresno State Bulldogs on the road. The Bulldogs are currently ranked 27 by the AP Top 25 and made their first appearance this season at number 25 in the USA Today Poll. A win for the Broncos Friday night will certainly go a long way in helping to restore some of that pre-season respect the Broncos received in the polls.
