Long range shooting made short work of the visiting Nebraska Cornhuskers on Wednesday night at Mackey Arena, as Purdue blasted the Huskers, 83-65.
The Boilermakers started the game by making 10 of their first 12 shots from the floor and had a comfortable 25-12 lead midway through the first half.
The Boilers shot a blistering 63.3-percent from the floor in the game’s opening twenty minutes, including seven made three-point baskets, and held a 47-30 halftime lead.
The Huskers got no closer than 14 points in the second half.
“We did a good job of making the extra pass and knowing where the shooters were on the court,” Purdue head coach Matt Painter said. “I thought our guys did a good job of taking rhythm shots and taking shots within the offense.”
Senior Robbie Hummel led Purdue with a season-high 29 points.
DJ Byrd returned from a one-game suspension and added 15 points.
Senior Lewis Jackson chipped in 13 points and five assists for the Boilers (18-10, 8-7)
Purdue and Nebraska were playing for the first time since December of 1979. The Huskers and Purdue have only one regular season game scheduled this year in Nebraska’s inaugural Big Ten campaign.
Nebraska (12-14, 4-11) has lost five of its last six games.
Purdue visits 13th ranked Michigan on Saturday.
