For anyone looking for something entertaining to do this weekend, Bohemian Nights at New West Fest in Old Town Fort Collins is a good option. This free, three-day festival offers an opportunity to listen to an eclectic mix of music, browse artist and crafts booths, observe performing arts exhibitions and sample a wide array of food choices from local vendors. Also included at the festival are an interactive and playful Kids’ World; a children’s carnival; photography, fine art and non-profit organization booths and two beer gardens.
"The Creative Garden" is a new addition to the festival this year. Located on Chestnut Street in a garden setting, this is a place where festival-goers can relax and enjoy short, free family-friendly performances while partaking of gourmet food, craft beers, wine and spirits.
Festival hours are Friday, August 20 from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm, Saturday, August 21 from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm with music concerts running until 10:00 pm, and Sunday, August 22 from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm.
The festival features over 70 Colorado bands performing on six stages and kicks off with performances by Pep Squad, The Heyday and The Flobots at the Linden Street stage on Friday. Earth, Wind & Fire will headline at the Mountain Avenue main stage on Saturday and Earl Scruggs will headline at the Mountain Avenue main stage on Sunday.
A highlight for children is the Kids’ Music Adventure (KMA) area with performances and activities suited for children grades K-6. Designed to interactively expose children to music and its inspirational qualities, KMA is free and open from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm Saturday and Sunday in Library Park. KMA hosts an instrument petting zoo, 6 kid-friendly special performances and hands-on music workshops supplied by local not-for-profit and for-profit music organizations.
Although parking is available in the parking structures, these structures do fill up, so expect to spend some time looking for a place to park if you choose to drive to the event. For this reason, it is advisable to walk, bike or take public transportation to the festival if at all possible.
This annual event is fun for all ages and can be enjoyed with your kids or with other adults. Take a break from the hectic single mom lifestyle and enjoy yourself at the New West Fest this weekend!
