Matthew de Vroome and Mark McDonald kept it clean by carding a bogey-free second round to come home first in the Absolute Comedy C Division of the Ottawa Sun Scramble.
The duo fired a three-under 69 at Outaouais Golf Club to post a two-round total of seven-under 137, which turned out to be two shots better than the runner-up tandem of Wes Ranger and Jordan MacWilliam.
Claude Seguin and Ray Saumur settled into third position by posting a two-under 142 total.
Fourth place finishers Craig Pedersen and Glenn Davies closed out the event with a one-under 143 total.
The 2014 Ottawa Sun Scramble City Championship Week is set for Aug. 18-24.
Players who made the cut in their respective divisions get priority registration as of March 1.
The Ottawa Sun Scramble was launched in 2005 with Open and Senior tournaments at Eagle Creek Golf Club.
Today, the city’s largest golf event with more than 800 players offers 10 two-round partner divisions plus the Regimbal Media Challenge and three qualifying events.
Conducted by local golf promotion company Executive Golf (executivegolf.ca), the tournament is a scramble format where both players take a shot and the better of the two is used.
“The tournament committee would like to congratulate all of the 2013 champions and participants, and to extend a heartfelt ‘thank you’ to all of the wonderful sponsors, courses and volunteers who make this event possible,” said Andy Rajhathy, vice-president of EG.
