Twenty-seven stand-up paddlers began day 1 of the Bogie & Bacall Classic paddle races yesterday. For Saturday's Bogie, kayakers and canoers completed a 13-mile course; the paddleboard race was four miles. Winds of up to 20 mph did not deter the enthusiastic racers who paddled around Key Largo. Florida Bay Outfitters at mile marker 104 bayside threw a party afterward for the racers and their customers to celebrate 20 years of business.
Today the Bacall is a six-mile loop for kayaks and canoes and three miles for stand-up paddlers.
Many volunteers helped the race directors including the Coast Guard Auxiliary.
