Boeings Dreamliner makes its long awaited maiden flight

Two years after the Boeing Dreamliner was originally scheduled to make it’s first appearance, it is finally making its debut flight, which is happening now.

The new 787 Boeing Dreamliner features a radical new design, is more fuel-efficient than earlier Boeing airliners and will be the first major airliner to use composite materials for most of its construction. It is a light weight, wide body aircraft that promises more space, more passenger comfort, and a better overall experience.

The 787 will seat between 200 and 300 passengers, and the most noteable enhancements include cabin windows which are larger than all other civil aircraft with a higher eye level so passengers can easily watch the horizon. It features three colors of LED cabin lights, which offer 180 different color combinations. An advanced cabin air-conditioning system provides better air quality: Ozone is removed from outside air; HEPA filters remove bacteria, viruses and fungi; and a gaseous filtration system removes odors, irritants and gaseous contaminants. Humidity is easily controlled and will be imporved due to interior parts made of new composites that will not corrode. With larger restrooms, handicap access and improved interior, the new Boeing Dreamliner promises to bring a whole new customer experience to those who travel.

Most major airline carriers have already ordered and confirmed their orders for the new and innovative 787. Boeings new 787 will enter into service in 2010.

That is so neat. With technology getting more and more intricate, it hasn't even crossed my mind how it would effect air travel. I am excited to see how this pans out.

I'll fly this for the air-filtration. I wear a Fresh-air Buddy when I fly- it is a personal ionizer. No longer get sick when I fly. The recycled air in planes is toxic!

Interesting read..flying's a tad more cabin eco-friendly with this new airliner..

Can't wait for my first 787 flight....also want to get onto the A380 eventually. Flying isn't glamorous, but it can get more comfortable at least.

You've found some great photos, and added additional information that I hadn't seen. This is my favorite story, and the 787 should also change the way people think about flying.
