The 787 Boeing Dreamliner took off Tuesday morning on its first flight (videos). The Boeing 787 Dreamliner took off this morning from Everett, Washington and is scheduled to land at Boeing Field four hours after take-off. Two and a half years of delays have plagued the Boeing Dreamliner.
The plane is lightweight and made of carbon and titanium, which will help reduce fuel consumption and maintenance costs. It is designed to fly long distances without stopping for fuel, and has been called one of the most fuel efficient planes in the world.
The 787 planed passed its functional tests early Tuesday and was cleared for take-off for its first voyage. The pilots will evaluate and examine how the machine operates, and will determine how it will do under normal circumstances.
There are six 787 Dreamliner aircrafts that will fly test flights over the next nine months, in order to determine if they can be safely used by airlines. The first video below is a promotional 787 Dreamliner aircraft video and the second video shows the first flight Tuesday morning (no sound).
