The Boeing 777 landing at Birmingham International Airport during ferocious winds had passengers vomiting amidst panic and terror. “All I could think of was my new year's resolution this year, which was to write my own will, and I haven't done it. It was that frightening. I was absolutely terrified.” According to a Dec. 5, 2013, Mirror report, another passenger tweeted his experience.
“Never flying again ... could have died. I was full on shook ain’t gonna lie wind was nuts bruv!!! One woman opposite me started throwing up after the 2nd attempt in landing.”
The terrifying moments on board the Boeing 777 during landing attempts at Birmingham International Airport were equally filled with panic and terror for those watching from the ground.
On Thursday, The Emirates Boeing 777 was arriving in Birmingham from Dubai and was trying to land in ferocious winds. An amateur video taken from the ground shows the landing attempt of the Boeing 777 during gale-force winds that were so strong that it actually turned the airplane sideways.
“Onlookers watched in horror as it approached the runway almost at a right angle before the pilot took emergency action,” opened the throttle, and aborted the landing just seconds before the plane was due to land on the tarmac.
Inside the Boeing 777, passengers watched the horrific scene on their TV screens while feeling the airplane shaking once it came out of the clouds. As the pilot struggled to control the Boeing 777 against the strong winds, some passengers started vomiting.
After not one, but two failed landing attempts at Birmingham International Airport, the Boeing 777 was diverted to London Gatwick where the plane and its passengers landed safely – and grateful to be alive.
