Here is another factor about the effects of bodybuilding and aging. Bodybuilding is known to reverse a great deal of health issues. Aging is usually associated with arthritis, diabetes, heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, osteoporosis, obesity, depression, and the list goes on. Many will turn to doctors before health because they have come to trust that "the good doctor" will confirm the diagnosis and give them the prescription needed to fix the problem. So they become dependent on medications, sometimes taking so many medications, it's only fitting that they feel even worse. What they fail to realize is that medicating can sometimes compound the original illness by creating a new one. So, what do you think happens when they go back to the doctor? You guessed it, they are prescribed yet another medication to treat the new illness.
Many doctors don't stress that taking a group of medications will counteract symptoms. Even if the doctor takes you off of one medication, you will usually be placed on another medication to combat the new symptom. But keep in mind, being a doctor is the profession; doctors practice medicine and that's how they get paid.
If you are currently taking medications, under doctors' care and decide to get into a gym, that doesn't mean you should just stop taking your medications but do get to the gym, train with weights and be consistent. What will happen, in a short time, you will begin to see your body changing but not only that, you will also notice your energy rising, and your health improving. You will begin to feel good, more alive, and your trip back to the doctor will show much improvement.
With bodybuilding, sometimes, you can begin to wean yourself from medications by lowering the dosage and in time, possibly discontinuing the medications altogether. There are situations, sometimes extreme situations, where a doctor's treatment and consultation is and will continue to be needed. However, there are times you have to take your health into your own hands and do something to promote your life and not just put a Bandaid on it.
Beginning a healthy routine of getting active and training with weights can often combat some illnesses much better than medication and with no side effects. But, if you've gone your entire life believing that doctors know best and prescriptions will fix the problems, you will likely be overcome by the aging mindset.
There is a saying, "You have to do what others won't to achieve what others don't". It's never to late to start living. Your age does not define who you become. You simply need to make a decision. There will always be people who will talk against it, tell you all of the reasons you're crazy, why it won't work and how bodybuilding is just for those young fitness fanatics, who will one day get old and pay for it. Don't listen to them! All you have to do is look at them, look at their lives and then decide for yourself if they know what they're talking about. You will find that these "old age mentors" will lead you to an early grave if you don't take back your life and live it.
