One of the greatest pleasures bodybuilding can offer you is control over your body. With the right discipline and training, your body will respond phenomenally to the hard work you put in. In order to obtain such good results, not only does your discipline and training need to be spot on, your technique needs to be as well.
Many people workout with weights. Whether bodybuilding or simply getting into better shape, weight training is a much needed tool toward your success. However, when you train with weights, are you controlling the weights or are the weights controlling you?
Look around any gym and you will see men and women training with weights but losing control within each repetition. The exercise may be biceps curls but it appears to be back training day because the form is so unstable, one would think it is a created exercise to train the muscles of the back instead. You can look at these people and really feel sorry for them because there is no way the unsteadiness of their form can be comfortable. So, what's going on with the weights here? It's usually the same scenario, the weights are just too heavy. If not too heavy, then it's got to be a lack of skill in lifting.
For men especially, the consensus is the heavier they lift, the stronger they are. So far from the truth, if it's done incorrectly. Strength is not about how much weight you can lift if you can barely lift it. If you are on the verge of "throwing your back out", you aren't really able to lift it. This happens when the focus is not in the right place. Being able to lift pounds of weight and barely able to support your own body weight at the same time has nothing to do with building a better body. It only makes you feel good for the purpose of satisfying your own ego. But if you knew how silly you looked while doing it, you would most certainly find a better way to feel good inside.
Weight training is only effective if it is done correctly. That means, training with perfect form. Holding a weight that is twice the amount your body is able to withstand does not build a better body. Why? Because, you are not accomplishing anything in your workout. If you can barely lift it, you are not getting the full contraction of the muscle at all. On top of that, you run the risk of injury.
So, you want a great body with shape and symmetry? Then, train smart. Your form must be spot on each time you lift a weight. Be conscious of what is slightly uncomfortable but does not compromise form and what is too heavy and does. You must get your mind away from feeling superior because you can hold a 100 pound dumbbell in your hand. Bottom line, if you can't lift it without practically falling over, you aren't building your body at all.
