Several law-enforcement agencies and U.S. Coast Guard Sector Charleston are actively working the waterway under the Arthur Ravenel, Jr. Bridge in the vicinity of the U.S.S Yorktown museum ship at Patriots Point in Mount. Pleasant, S.C.
Just after 2 p.m. this afternoon authorities were notified of the incident.
According to the Post and Courier:
A petty officer at the Coast Guard station in Charleston said deputies from the Charleston County Sheriff's Office had reached the body first.
A small boat from the Coast Guard also was heading to the scene to help in the recovery efforts.
The body was taken to the Mount Pleasant side of the harbor, where emergency medical personnel were waiting.
The death is an apparent suicide but there are few details to report. The investigation is still underway.
Just yesterday, a man threatened to commit suicide off this same bridge. He was known to local authorities. There is no information about the identify of the deceased or if it is the same person who made the previous threat.
