Around 11:00 a.m. on Friday, a deputy with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a vehicle driven by twenty-eight year old Charlie Triggs of Marrero for driving a vehicle with a stolen license plate. A License Plate Recognition camera picked up the stolen plate on Destrehan Avenue, alerting authorities. The vehicle was followed to the 2400 block of Destrehan Avenue where it was stopped near the Lapalco Bridge Pumping Station.
After being stopped, a fifty-eight year old occupant, Larry Williams, was apprehended but the driver, Triggs, fled on foot and jumped off of the Destrehan overpass into the canal below. A waterway search was underway, but Triggs’ body was not recovered until this morning.
