The body of a 74-year-old woman was found Thursday in the lake of an apartment complex in Cherokee County – and police said an autopsy is scheduled for Saturday to determine the official cause of the woman’s death.
The woman, who has been identified as Ms. Betty West, of Acworth, was found dead in the afternoon, according to a Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office news release.
Investigators said a resident at the Waldan Pond apartment complex at 450 Waldan Circle saw the body floating in the lake on the property Thursday afternoon and called 911.
Ms. West was a resident at the complex off Bells Ferry Road, the sheriff’s spokesman Lt. Jay Baker said.
Her body was turned over to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation's crime lab for an autopsy. It’s unclear how long the woman had been in the lake before she was found and officials have not released any details on the condition of her body.
It’s also unclear if she lived alone.
