A dead body was found on Tuesday evening, August 13, 2013, in eastern Lawrence County.
Lawrence County Sheriff Russell Adams said the body was found in a small wooded area near the Memorial Bridge around 7:45pm Tuesday, but it appeared to have been there for several days. The Illinois State Police and other authorities were on the scene until around 1:15am Wednesday. The scene was blocked off by police tape.
The body was found in an area about 50 yards from the Wabash River and about 50 feet north of the bridge.
An autopsy was performed on Thursday, August 15, 2013, by Forensic Pathologist Dr. James Jacobi from Bedford, IN. Identification had to be established through dental records and personal effects.
Lawrence County Coroner Shannon Steffey released a statement confirming the identity of the man as Jonathan Brenton, 32, from Vincennes, IN. The manner and cause of death is pending, but Steffey said foul play is not suspected.
The investigation into Brenton's death is being continued by the Illinois State Police, the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department, and the Lawrence County Coroner's Office.
