Players on Bodog's network were informed yesterday that Bodog was changing its name and domain. Effectively yesterday, the Bodog network was rebranded as Bovada.
All account information (including names, cash balances, point balances, and casino preferences) was migrated to the new site, so players should allegedly be able to access their accounts on the new domain.
The new domain is www.bovada.lv - the domain is registered in Latvia, but for casual users it would provide a useful reference to Las Vegas, while the name would seem to be a merger of "Bodog" and "Nevada".
The Bodog domain has faced trouble often over the past several years.
In 2007, shortly after passage of the UIGEA, Bodog temporarily lost its domain in a cyber-squatting battle, and was forced to use other domains such as bodoglife.com for several months until it was able to reach a settlement to regain control of the domains.
After Black Friday shut down PokerStars, Full Tilt, and Absolute/UB in April 2011, Bodog moved its domain to bodog.eu - though it still offered games to Americans (and continues to do so). The domain was due to expire at the end of the year, but instead the Morris Mohawk Gaming Group decided it would be a great time for a rebranding.
Effective immediately, all American players are automatically redirected from the bodog.eu site to the new Bovada website.
If I were to re-activate my Bodog account, I might go to see if I could place a bet on the Falcons (-11.5) over the Jaguars tonight. The Jags have not scored more than 17 points in a road game this year, while the Falcons look to keep momentum and the lead in the NFC wild card race. Hopefully, this game does not stress Falcons coach Mike Smith out very much, after his hospital scare this past weekend.
